Myths About the Causes of Acne

There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but there is little evidence that foods have much effect on the development and course of acne in most people. Another common myth is that dirty skin causes acne; however, blackheads and other acne lesions are not caused by dirt. Stress doesn’t cause acne, but research suggests that for people who have acne, stress can make it worse.

Who Gets Acne?
People of all races and ages get acne. It is most common in adolescents and young adults. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. For most people, acne tends to go away by the time they reach their thirties; however, some people in their forties and fifties continue to have this skin problem.

Treating Acne and Repairing Problematic Skin.
When treating acne, the ultimate goals are to heal existing breakouts, prevent scarring, restore a healthy appearance, and stop future breakouts from forming. Depending on the extent of the condition, some doctors may suggest combining oral and topical medications or using a system of products such as those available from MD Fromulations and Cellex-C.

The system combines pore-cleansing, acne-fighting, and complexion-refining products in a daily homecare regime that can be used alone or in conjunction with other doctor-recommended treatments. Optimal results depend on regular application as directed in the morning and evening protocols. Once existing blemishes are eliminated, remaining on a consistent acne-fighting regimen is the most effective way to keep skin clear and helathy.
Jan Marini Skin Research is on the forefront of research for Acne cause and cure. Jan Marini suggest a different Daily Regeime for Teen Acne than Adult Acne:
Jan Marini Skin Research Daily Regime – Teenage Acne
Product AM /PM 2.5% BPO Wash
BPO Wash (Leave-on) (5% solution for girls 10% boys)
Acne Gel I (Spot Treat)
TGF Serum (Only if moisturizer is needed)
Antioxidant Face Protectant SPF 30

Directions:
Step 1: BPO 2.5% Wash (AM & PM)
Apply a small amount (about the size of a quarter) to the face. Work into a lather. Gently remove with a washcloth and lukewarm water. Splash face with lukewarm water. Pat dry.
Step 2: BPO leave-on 5% or 10% (PM only)
Apply a small amount to the entire area or areas where breakouts tend to occur. May be increased to AM & PM if breakouts have not resolved. Girls should start with BPO 5% and may move up to BPO 10% if further clearing is indicated after using at least one bottle BPO 5%. Boys may start with BPO 10%.
Step 3: Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30 (AM only)
Apply generously to entire face, ears and neck. Apply every day, rain or shine.

Optional Steps:
1. Acne Gel I (Spot Treat) If lesions are present, spot treat with Acne Gel I by applying directly on the session until clearing is achieved. May apply once or twice daily until clear.
2. TGF Serum – Some patient’s skin becomes dry and uncomfortable and may require a moisturizer. TGF serum is a great ‘oil free’ moisturizer that may be applied AM & PM as needed. Apply after BPO leave-on (or Acne Gel if used).
