Understanding Antioxidants!

There is a lot of talk about Antioxidants and Free Radicals…….but why is this important to me and my daily skincare regime?

Unstable Free Radicals ravage the skin, stealing from healthy skin cells which leads to fine-lines and wrinkles, age spots, loss of elasticity in the skin and a number of other aging skin care issues which may include skin cancer.

Free Radicals are unstable molecules that look to bond with other healthy molecules, destroying the vitality of healthy skin. Antioxidants are molecules that prevent Free Radicals from harming healthy tissue. Antioxidants used to be found only in food, but we have known for some time the benefits of applying topical antioxidants on the skin to help achieve and maintain a more yourthful appearance. Some of the most common antioxidants found in skincare products are: Vitamin C or l-ascorbic acid, Vitamin A which is a retinol and Vitamin E a tocopherol.

Vitamin C has been one of skincare’s hot products for many years due to its ability to fight Free Radicals and build new collagen cells. Topical Vitamin C can protect the skin from sun spots and from UVA & UVB damage. Vitamin C also has the ability to enhance the synthesis of collagen resulting in a firmer more resilient complexion.

The daily application of a topical Vitamin C like Cellex-C Advance-C Serum provides to optimal daily dose of Vitamin C serum your body can process in a 24 hour period.  The application of Hydrating 5B or Hyloronic acid absorbs 100 tims it’s weight in water, helps deliver the serum deep into the dermis and create the perfect environment for cell production.  Thus creating new collagen.

Vitamin A (retinol) is know for its amazing ability to dramatically improve the appearance of the skin. This antioxidant smoothes away wrinkles, decreases fine lines, evens out rough spots and brings back a natural color and tone to the skin. Jan Marini Skin Research offers one the the best Retinol products in their ‘Factor A Plus’ lostion or cream.

Vitamin E (tocopherol) protects the skin against Free Radicals caused by pollution, bacteria, Sun and aging. Topical Vitamin E helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of age spots, fine lines wrinkles and can reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Vitamin E has long been known for its ability to moisturize by reducing transepidermal water loss from the skin and strengthening the skin’s barrier function.

Every skincare regime should include the use of a topical Antioxidant to significantly increase the skin’s ability to protect from futher Free Radical damage and repair existing damage.
